Music And That...

Much to the consternation of my whole family, music instruments cover the floor of my bedroom.

That sentence would normally be associated with a musical prodigy, someone who is capable of picking up an instrument and playing Flight of the Bumblebee at a break-neck speed.

I’m not that person. It’s a shame really because it would be a great talking piece at parties.

The musical instruments that are the foundations for my bedroom are a triangle, a ukulele, a drum kit, a bass guitar, and electric guitar, an electro acoustic guitar, an acoustic guitar, a recorder, a balalaika and a kazoo. I play about three of those instruments.

I had learnt to play the drums at my school. I had lessons there for a few years then decided to stop as I felt that my teacher had been convicted of something. It later transpired that he just had a funny look in his eye…

I’ve had a ukulele for about 2 months now. I’m getting there. I made a definitive proclamation when I got it that I wouldn’t stop playing until I could play Indigo by Tom Milsom. There was really nothing definitive about that proclamation…

The rest of the instruments aren’t mine but are being kept in my room until some time in the unforeseeable future.

The other day I was in Huddersfield for a rugby thing. I can’t stand rugby, and I refuse to believe that it is fun or exciting. I was bored out of my small skull.

I’m short. It’s very obvious that I am short. If you ever meet a group of people and I’m in it, I will be the short one. No doubt about that! But sometimes when I meet new people, something which I have a certain disinterest in doing, they assume that I am about 12. This, frankly, pisses me off.

In Huddersfield, a man asked me how old I was to which I responded ‘I’m 16!’ a response he was surprised by.

‘You look about 12!’ he said with the most patronising voice you could imagine.

‘I may look 12 on the outside, but mentally, I’m much older than 16. Academically, I’m much older than 16. Physically, I look about 12. Look is the operative word in this sentence of gloom and misery for me. For all you know, I could have a growing disorder. I could have a disorder and you would have insulted me, making me feel much worse than I usually feel about my height or lack thereof. You’re recalcitrance annoys me.’ I left him on that note. About a minute later I saw him looking confused. I was hoping to myself that he was trying to figure out what recalcitrance was.

My parents have always told me, stand up for yourself. With my bullying problems being a recent shadow gone by in my life, I get emotional when people mention things like my height, and the only way I can stop myself from bursting into tears is to just shout.

A bonus of this is that if I feel insulted, my parents let me argue with the person who may or may not have insulted me.

Which is nice...

See you in the future

How To Not Act Cool

The urge to write a blog never really pops up in my head. Sometimes I’m up for it, other times, not so much. Today is one of the latter but seeing as I haven’t written a blog in so long, I might as well do one anyway!

The past few days have been relatively eventful. Last week on Saturday, I went to a friend’s house for a party. That was fun and I met some cool people there and I got to spend time with Ellie which always an added bonus! About 10 minutes after I arrived with my best friend, my eyes caught a glimpse of a group of people who were about 17 or 18 acting “well’ard”.

One of the boys of the group leaned out of the window and shouted down to us “Oi, mate! Turn that fuckin’ music down! We’re trying to fuckin’ sleep!”

Being a fearless, comedian I decided to inform them that it was 6:15 in the afternoon…

They weren’t impressed with my antics… Everyone else there was though so I found it a minor victory!

After we turned the music down a fraction, they came outside and started playing football doing all sorts of ‘skills and frills’. I’m sure they meant “thrills” but they were very common. ‘Skills and frills’ is not in speech marks, but however in inverted commas, due to the fact that one of them actually said ‘Oi mate, check out my skills and frills!’ at his friend…

About ten minutes had past when their football came over the fence and into the garden where we were. It hit the top of the greenhouse and landed next to me.

As it was heading for the greenhouse everyone looked on thinking that it is going to smash. It was one of the moments in life that happened in slow motion it was that tense!

It was only when the ball landed next to me when we realised that the ball would have to hit the greenhouse very hard for it to smash, as they weren’t playing with a football, they were playing with one of those bouncy footballs that you win at fĂȘtes if you kick the ball in the hole five thousand times in a row without being electrocuted or something similar to that.

Not only was it not a real football but it had Lightning McQueen from Cars plastered all over it!

They subsequently lost whatever fear they struck into anybody’s heart….

Last night was prom and I had a really good time.

No major drama happened except for two of my friends falling out then becoming friends again and being all lovely with each other which was nice, the limo that took us to our destination was the wrong one and so the person who organised it had a go at the driver and got upset so me and my friend dealt with the problems at hand, another limo containing 24 people broke down not even halfway between the destination and the start point and our limo took 25 minutes to get to the place we needed to be instead of the expected 1 hour which was greatly annoying as we were painfully early and no one was there and we still had to pay the full price. Apart from that, there was nothing major that happened. Ellie was there and she looked stunning and we had our photo taken which was nice and then the guy made us kiss which wasn’t at all awkward.

Bracket slash sarcasm close bracket.

And that has been the week of my life when things have happened in it…

Makes a nice change!

See you in the future
